S.L.U.G. CAMPAIGNS

The STOURBRIDGE LINE USER GROUP exists to PROMOTE and PROTECT the Birmingham to Worcester Railway which runs through Stourbridge and Kidderminster. Our campaigns are based on these two objectives. Our general campaigns are listed below in our LINE USER CHARTER.

PROGRESS is measured from the time of the Group’s inception. The Group does not assume to take the credit for all these improvements, but will vigorously pursue its campaigns through various channels and raise its profile to recruit new members. It will also co-operate with other user groups where there is a common interest.

Easy intercity connections at Worcester stations and Birmingham.

(e.g. New Street terminus restored)

The Birmingham to Worcester railway line has three obvious inter-city interchange stations which are Birmingham Snow Hill, Worcester Foregate Street and Worcester Shrub Hill. All three provide journey opportunity for towns and cities in the SOUTH of England.

Worcester stations also provide connections to Wales and the WEST.

Passengers from the Stourbridge line wishing to make connections to the NORTH or EAST of England face much inconvenience, having to make their way from Birmingham Snow Hill or Moor Street to New Street Station.

A better deal for village stations

Optimum frequency at interchange stations.

Overall frequencies are good except from Village stations to interchanges. The problem is the availability and frequency of connecting trains, particularly at Smethwick Galton Bridge.

Bus connections to all adjacent towns with no rail services

Security on trains and stations.

Good clear information.

Increased staffing levels at stations.

In addition we have a wider agenda which includes campaigns for:

more trains from Kidderminster to London Marylebone.
To compensate for poor interchange to London Euston services.

the development of the Stourbridge Town Branch Line. (to include a permanent Sunday service.)

the restoration of a RAIL link from Stourbridge to Dudley

We aim to plug the gaping hole in the network, enabling direct services to run from Worcestershire to Dudley. This route, extended to Dudley Port would provide better connections to Wolverhampton. At present, passengers have to suffer time consuming diversions via Cradley Heath or Smethwick and delay while waiting for bus or train connections. PROGRESS WILL BE REPORTED IN DUE COURSE (see below).

BRANCH LINE - PROGRESS REPORT

The PARRY PEOPLE MOVER Light Railcar has successfully completed its year long trial. It has passed the test as far as Centro and its passengers are concerned.

The Sunday service on the Stourbridge Town branch line is now suspended and will only be provided at the discretion of the successful rail franchise bidder. S.L.U.G. believe that a seven-day shuttle service is not only desirable but also essential, for completely integrated public transport in the town.
